Information of Jigoku Meguri

Jigoku Meguri ( = Hell Tour ) is the highlights of Beppu sightseeing program.

There are eight famous Jigokus.

6 Jigokus are in Kannawa area and 2 Jigokus are in Shibaseki area.

UMI JIGOKU (SEA HELL)
So called because it resembles the sea, this 200 meter deep, cobalt-blue pond of boiling water emerged 1200 years ago after a volcanic explosion.
The manicured gardens are simply magnificient. And from May to November you can marvel at the gigantic " Victoria Amazonica " lotus flowers grown in hot spring waters.

KAMADO JIGOKU (COOKING POT HELL)
I am standing on an enormous cooking pot.
I am the mascot of this hot spring site, temptingly divided into six unique, pots of murky, bobbling, " thunping " boiling water.

CHINOIKE JIGOKU (BLOOD POND HELL)
This is the oldinst natural "Jigoku" in Japan!
At first site the blood red pond awakens a shudder.
Fear not. This awesome pond takes its formidable color from red clay that dessolves
in the natural, boiling hot spring waters.

TATSUMAKI JIGOKU (GEYSER HELL)
This is the site of amaging intermittent spring.
Every 25 minutes a natural gust of water shoots abput 20 meters in the air.
The boiling water are used to raise tropical plants.

YAMA JIGOKU ( Mountain Hell ), KINRYU JIGOKU ( Dragon Hell ), ONIYAMA JIGOKU ( Crocodile Hell ) and SHIRAIKE JIGOKU ( White Pond Hell ) are in Kannnawa area
